While you\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">may not have heard of us before, you&#8217;ve probably used a product that was designed here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">\u00a0<\/span><strong>Role<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">We&#8217;re looking for the best embedded software students to come to our offices in Warwick (UK) for\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">industrial placements lasting between six and twelve months. This is an ideal role for an\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">undergraduate student specialising in embedded systems software engineering, who will benefit from\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">gaining valuable experience in all aspects of the software development life cycle. The candidate will be\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">required to participate and contribute towards software feasibility studies, design, coding, debugging\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">and testing. DCA are involved in a wide range of software projects including medical devices, fluid<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">pumps, web based applications and PC based test tools, however our primary projects involve\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">embedded software running on various microcontrollers. A student will benefit from improving not only\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">their software engineering skills but their hardware and electronics knowledge as well. In addition to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">contributing towards customer-based projects, the student may also be required to research new\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">software tools and technologies to aid in future development and help improve software development<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">procedures (including software, scripts and documentation).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll help you to get up to speed with our design tools and our approach to project work while giving\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">you appropriate responsibility for work that needs doing. You&#8217;ll need to be enthusiastic, motivated,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">self-reliant and able to manage your time, but help and support will of course be available when\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">required &#8211; we assign a mentor to students when they arrive to help you settle in.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A placement here will complement your studies and give you the advantage that comes with hands-on\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">experience when looking for a job after university. Because our projects are so varied and we only\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">employ the best engineers, you&#8217;ll get a great range of exposure to different aspects of software design\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">and you&#8217;ll learn a lot along the way. There&#8217;s a vibrant atmosphere at DCA in which you&#8217;ll quickly be\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">made to feel part of the team and our placement students manage to have some fun as well as\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">meeting the challenges of the job.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pay and benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We offer competitive rates of pay. You will be entitled to 22 days holiday per annum plus bank\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">holidays, adjusted on a pro rata basis for placements of less than 12 months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential qualities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The ability to program in C\/embedded C to a reasonable level.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; A working knowledge of Java, C# or Python.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; A basic knowledge of embedded systems and relevant hardware.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; A proactive, enthusiastic and self-motivated attitude, with the ability to work individually and as\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">part of a team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The ability to problem-solve (e.g. debug other people\u2019s software).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Desirable qualities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">&#8211; A basic knowledge of UML design.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; An awareness of coding standards (e.g. MISRA).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; An understanding of approaches to software testing: unit, integration and system tests.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Experience of using electrical circuits and embedded microcontrollers, e.g. Arduino<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Experience in designing basic hardware, e.g. to interface to an Arduino or Pi<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To apply, please send a CV and covering letter to <a href=\"mailto:software@dca-design.com\">software@dca-design.com<\/a> clearly indicating that\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">you are applying for a software student placement, with an indication of your preferred placement\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">dates.
