Data Science for Social Good Summer Fellowship – DSSGx

Following the success of last year’s Data Science for Social Good initiative, The Alan Turing Institute is again leading the UK 12-week summer fellowship, in partnership with University of Warwick and Imperial College London.

This year’s fellowship (DSSGx) will run from 15 June to 5 September at the University of Warwick campus, and offers a competitive stipend. DSSGx is an independently organised programme affiliated with the DSSG Foundation at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).

DSSGx gives aspiring data scientists the opportunity to work on data mining, machine learning, and data science projects with social impact. Participants will work with global non-profit organisations and government bodies to make a real-world social impact with their data, by improving their services, interventions, and outreach.

BBC engineering trainee scheme

We are currently recruiting for our Broadcast Engineering Trainee Scheme here at the BBC, we have roles available at many of our offices across the UK, so we’re keen to promote this to local students/graduates as much as possible.

Just as a brief overview we’re looking for the following:

  • Someone to hold a degree (at least a 2:2 or equivalent) in Electronics, Physics, Maths, Computer Science or a closely related subject, coupled with high level of logical and mathematical reasoning skills. Accreditation of your under graduate degree by a professional body such as IET, IMechE desirable.
  • Someone to bring a sound knowledge of audio, video and broadcasting principles and an understanding of the demands of a broadcasting environment

Agxio – AI and ML in agriculture

Agxio are a a relatively new AI and Machine Learning Technology business focused on the Agriculture industry and is now forming a team to be based at the Aberystwyth Innovation and Enterprise Campus (which is located near to Aberystwyth University). The team will be focused on helping to complete and evolve the new Agxio command centre and to also help develop a number of new market leading products. The plan is to build a Centre of Excellence at the AIEC for a number of product streams and this new team will form the basis of this.

They’ve sent through ads for five separate jobs – Data Architect, Enterprize Architect, Machine Learning Dev, Tech support and Visualisation and Low Code Dev. These are all aimed at recent grads. What are the roles?

A placement in IT at JDE will be very varied and you will be getting stuck into lots of different tasks, depending on business needs at the time.

You will either be working in Retail:

– This IT placement involves supporting IT operations for end user services, local infrastructure, and ensuring that applications are aligned and meet business needs.

– You will be supporting the Infrastructure Specialist in local and end user services

– You will be responsible for the maintenance and delivery of web systems

– You will work with application and infrastructure vendors to resolve issues

 

Or Manufacturing:

– This IT placement involves working with the Plant Systems team in relation to any system or production issue

– You will be leading on the creation and development of network Policies

– You will maintain updates, patching and antivirus of computer operating systems and applications

– You will catalog, document and verify backups and archives as well as document and maintain system policies

Software engineering job, Komatsu Worcester

Software Engineers from Aber might want to join the Komatsu Mining Longwall Control and Automation department in Worcester. https://mining.komatsu/

All the equipment is SIL rated and safety critical, predominately the software is C/C++ based following a MISRA Like standard. However we also develop a HMI which is Java based, and an archive server in MySql, and in office tools using varying languages.

We take an agile approach with daily scrums, source control with GIT and PVCS, with planning on VSTS.
