Gloversure – Developer ECommerce Platform

Gloversure contacted us to say they are looking for a new developer. (Background they are based in Welshpool and also take several CS IY students each year from the department)

We are looking to recruit a Graduate Magento developer, just wondering

if you could share the following link to the students graduating this year?

We took on an Aber grad in the same role last year and he is doing

really well, looking to see if we can find another this year.

Industrial Placement – Companies House

Industrial Placement in DDaT at Companies House 2021-22-1

Earlier this week Companies House attended the All Wales Uni Careers Fair and our Industrial Placement opportunity within DDaT also went live on this date. In previous years we have advertised directly with universities but as all our vacancies need to go on Civil Service jobs board, it means this year students will need to apply through this CS jobs portal. The link to the vacancy and application/how to apply is as per below but I have also included a poster style attachment in case there is anywhere that you can virtually post this document for Computer Science Year 2 students who might be interested.

Data Engineer vacancy at Sky

I am writing as the hiring manager to inform you of an employment opportunity at Sky within its Network Engineering division, which might possibly be suitable for you or for a contact you may know. Details are provided below:

Data Engineer

We have an opportunity for a Data Engineer within the Network Data Science & Software department, part of Sky’s Engineering division, which takes a data-driven approach towards meeting network planning and quality goals. Our networks are at the heart of delivering our entertainment services and as such using a data driven approach to ensure that all of our networks are always up and highly performant is our raison d’être.

What you’ll do

– Create and maintain an optimal data pipeline architecture focussed upon network data, including real-time and batch data sources.
– Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
– Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimising data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
– Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and Cloud ‘big data’ technologies.
– Keep our data separated and secure through multiple data centres and regions.
– Create data tools for data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing into an innovative industry leader.

What you’ll bring

– Graduate degree BSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar. Strong communications skills.
– SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases. Strong analytic skills related to working with structured and unstructured datasets.
– Proficient Python programmer.
– Ideally an awareness of network technologies and concepts or an insatiable desire to learn.
– Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management. A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
– Experience with big data tools (e.g. Spark, Kafka), data pipeline and workflow management tools (e.g. Airflow) and GCP cloud services (e.g. Pub/Sub, Dataflow).
