ARM Holdings is the world’s leading semiconductor intellectual property (IP) supplier. What you probably know is that the company makes lots of microprocessors which go into devices such as mobile phones and low power computers. But wait, there is more.
At a recent Open Day, one of the parents of a prospective student talked to me about ARM computer. In addition to the hardware, a large part of the business writes software, some of which is low-level, but there are plenty of higher-level software developer opportunities in the company. The person noted that the company would love to hear from top-quality students for internship and graduate opportunities.
Anyway, there is a chance that the 2013 opportunities have been snapped up, but I encourage you to have a look on their recruitment site. I haven’t looked at all of the links, but it looks like some of the application dates have passed. If there is a position that really interests you, you could always consider emailing to ask if a late application would be welcomed. Otherwise, you could keep an eye on other vacancies that may come up.
The two links are provided below. You may yet find a great opportunity waiting for you in Cambridge or beyond.

As a side note: What was also encouraging was that the person thought the types of skills we aim to encourage through our course fit well with the extra skills that companies want from prospective employees. These are skills such as the team working and the communication skills in addition to the technical background.
More placements come up – with their remote sensing group.
Closing date is 19th April.

One of our graduates is working at a company called Box UK. There are job opportunities in the Cardiff office. He has highlighted one in particular for PHP developers. See the company site for details.

In the recent Careers survey about sessions you would find helpful, there was a request for help regarding Psychometric tests. I have spoken with Carolyn and she has recommended the Careers resource on this topic at http://careers.aber.ac.uk/cas_web/interface/view_content.php?structure_id=762.
The resource also includes to some practice tests.
N.B. Only pre-registered students will be able to take part. Do not turn up on the day without registering.

Lighthouse UK application form
Here are the instructions:-
If candidates could complete the word doc and save it as their name i.e. martin_lee.docx and email it direct to me martin.lee@lighthouseuk.net
They need to complete sections 1,2,5,6 & 7 they can sign the document if we interview. (section 5 is the key one, they need to consider this carefully)
I don’t want covering letters, as this info will be contained in section 5, their email just needs to say “please see attached application form for the role of industrial placement for 2013/14”. We want to make it easy for them to apply.
It’s also worth telling them there will be a short practical test at interview. Approximately 30 minutes.
Placements available for students with excellent programming ability, please see:-
Aber students have been going to PML for many years now, and they only advertise to a selected few universities, so please apply as you will have a very good chance of getting at least an interview.
Closing date is 22nd February.
