converged cloud offering. HP Cloud Services (HPCS) is a startup division within HP. Our goal is to provide the next generation of cloud
infrastructure, platform services, and cloud solutions for developers,
ISVs, and businesses of all sizes, based on OpenStack and related open

As a member of the team, you will participate in one or more aspects of building a highly available, scalable and secure cloud solution. You will be engaged in a mix of Open Source and proprietary development, working with teams with HP and across the Open Stack Community.
Location
HP offices in Galway, on the west coast of Ireland. Galway is the major hub of Western Ireland, and well known for mixing travellers, students, culture and night-life.
HP Galway has a long history of taking placement year students from Aberystwyth, and prides itself on providing an atmosphere and situation where both students and HP get the maximum benefit from their year. Students are given real work on real systems and become full members of the teams they are placed with.
Responsibilities
– As a member of the HP Cloud Services team, you will contribute to the operational (running a data centre) and development activities involved with deploying and maintaining a public cloud.
– Work with multiple project teams of other software systems engineers and internal and outsourced development partners responsible for all stages of design and development for complex products and platforms,
including solution design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration
– Work with a range of technologies including Python, Linux, Openstack, ReSTful APIs, chef, ruby, git, HP labs technology and lots of big servers.

19k euro / annum, pro-rata for the length of internship

Andrew is an Enterprise Fellow at the Prince’s Trust, and holds a degree in International Politics from Aberystwyth University and an MBA from London Business School. He enjoys the odd bottle of Australian Shiraz, a half-volley outside off stump and a walk with the dog across the common.

British Council Language Assistants Opportunity, CHINA: Applications now open!
The British Council is currently recruiting 100 graduates to become English Language Assistants in China. We’re looking for open minded, mature and adaptable individuals from across the UK. You need to have at least a 2nd class degree (from any subject) by summer 2013 to apply but do not need any previous teaching experience or a knowledge of Mandarin to participate in the programme.
You will live and teach in China for approximately ten months where you will receive a local salary of 3-4500 RMB per month, free accommodation, plus your return flights reimbursed. The programme begins with a two week TEFL induction course in Beijing in August 2013 and teaching follows the Chinese school year from Sept 2012 to June 2013. You will gain valuable skills and life experience – impressing future employers upon your return. Previous English Language Assistants have gone on to pursue successful careers in journalism, teaching, business, charity work, and international relations.
This is a fantastic opportunity to get to know the ‘real’ China whilst giving something back to the community.

ThoughtWorks is a software company that began in 1993 and has offices around the globe. Its clients include guardian.co.uk, Siemens, NSPCC, E4 and thetrainline.com, to name a few. They are looking for talented graduates to join their company. They have recruited several Aber graduates and are keen to talk to come back to look for more.
The session will begin at 6.15pm on Thursday 15th November. There will be a presentation about careers at ThoughtWorks and an opportunity to learn about agile team planning for projects – using Lego as a way to explore the ideas.
The session will finish by 8:15pm. There will be plenty of time for an informal chat with the Aber graduates who now work at ThoughtWorks.
This session is for anyone who enjoys writing software. This certainly includes students in Computer Science, but anyone from any discipline who is passionate about software can apply to ThoughtWorks. Come along to see why this could be you.
