General Electric

One of our current IY students has sent this to me. He’s working for General Electric at the moment, and says they have three of our students this year. His comments:
“The Jobs aren’t so technical but very good experience for project management and working for a very large organisation 300,000+ employees. Plus the pays pretty good!”
So if that sounds like you, do have a go at this!

They need to complete sections 1,2,5,6 & 7 they can sign the document if we interview. (section 5 is the key one, they need to consider this carefully)

The Graduate 2013

I’ve been asked to let you all now about this event below……

The Graduate 2013

After graduating from University, many IT / Computing students have the knowledge to fulfil the technical specification of a job advertisement but can be perceived to lack some of the soft skills to be a modern IT professional. Without interview or assessment day experience it can be difficult to for them to show their true potential to prospective employers.

To help tackle this The BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, has organised “The Graduate” Event. The BCS has teamed up with an outstanding list of IT Graduate Employers to put this event together.

Some the judges on the day include Yorkshire Water, Deloitte, Microsoft and Capgemini.

“The Graduate” is a mock recruitment event designed to provide IT/Computing students with the chance to experience how a recruitment process works. It provides an insight into what competencies organisations are seeking in their next graduate intake, an opportunity for them to exhibit their potential and the platform to learn new skills for when it really counts.

It is important to point out that “The Graduate” is not a recruitment event. The main aim of the event is to give the candidates feedback from trained professional graduate recruiters so that they can be better prepared for when they are applying for a real job. In the past a number of candidates have started roles at one of our partners, but this is very much an indirect benefit.

I would be really grateful if you could publicise this opportunity to your students. The event is open to all student year groups including recent graduates. The best way for them to get an idea of what happens at the event is to take a look at this video from 2012’s event http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=BQ-5jIj8ot8.

The advertised deadline for this event is the 31st January 2013 so the students really need to apply ASAP. The event itself will take place on Monday 18th March.

More information can be found at http://www.thegraduate.bcs.org/ and you can find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TheGraduateEvent and on Twitter as @TheGraduateBCS.
