Funded Phd and MSc options in Edinburgh and Saudi

Matt Pugh (who was in Aber but is now in Edinburgh) has let us know that Edinburgh have Masters funding available. Deadlines of 1st May. http://www.ed.ac.uk/news/2015/masters-funding-060315

Rob Hoehndorf (who was in Aber but is now in Saudi Arabia) has funding for MSc, PhD and internship placements in KAUST. He can fund 3 or more PhD or MSc students at the moment (i.e. free housing, healthcare, flight and 25-30k USD stipend per year). The internships are also fully funded, last from 1-6 months (ideally 3-6 months) and come with free flight, accommodation, and a stipend of 1200 USD/month. This would be good for students who are not sure if they really want to stay in Saudi for years, or for students looking for summer opportunities. Contact Rob directly in the first instance (robert.hoehndorf@kaust.edu.sa). http://www.kaust.edu.sa/application-form-kaust.html
Application deadline for admission in Fall is 9 April 2015. And admissions in computer science at KAUST are handled by Rosemary, who was responsible for student admissions in Aberystwyth until few months ago

Do have a browse, there are some great salaries, and some interesting companies all wanting your skills. Many of the job adverts come from aber.prospects.ac.uk or from prospects.ac.uk, but some come from individual employer websites. If you know of any jobs that should be put up there, you can email Amanda (afc) or give any printouts directly to the people in the general office.

ARM Graduate Opportunities

One of our recent graduates, Nikolay Borisov, has just alerted us to jobs at ARM: http://www.arm.com/about/careers/graduates/vacancies.php

He comments:

“I don’t think there is much to say about ARM – the name speaks of itself J The company is doing very good, this September they hired 105 people and they still need more great talent. It turns out there are 3-4 Aber graduates so people from Uni have great chances. The main requirements is C/PYTHON as well as some general awareness in operating systems/CPU architectures
Hint: read up on CPU pipelines/out of order execution/race conditions in order to prepare for the interview 😀

In case anyone have questions they can email at Nikolay.Borisov@arm.com and I’ll be happy to help”
