Keysight are recruiting IY students again this year after 2 a two year pause due to the pandemic. We have has students at Keysught in the past and indeed the last one is now a permanent graduate employee. The role that is relevant to us is:

Collins Aerospace – Software Engineering

I have just met with Collins and as always they have fantastic opportunities and an extremely valuable package(below). Collins have taken an Aber CS IY student for many years now so the chances are good they will again for 2022-23, although they do recruit from a number of universities. GE Aviation Software Engineering – 12 Month Industrial Year Placement, Cheltenham

There are IY placements available at GE Aviation. David Adejumo, one of our graduates, works there and he has been in touch to encourage applications from Aberystwyth. They have had Aber IY students before. There are some Aberystwyth Alumni working at GE, 2 of which work at the Cheltenham site.

 

David says that he thinks (but he isn’t 100% certain) that the IY positions would be in the R&D team. The role talks about hands-on software development and coding experience. A number of languages are listed – which you will have experience of. They are also interested in people with embedded software backgrounds, but that isn’t a requirement.

Junior Web Developer – Net World Sports

Dear students looking for an IY,

I have just received this email. We have had students at Net World Sports (in Wrexham) in previous years, and I’ve visited. It seemed to me to be a very good placement, in a friendly atmosphere. The student I saw there did mention that own transport was very useful (it’s on the outskirts of town) so perhaps bear that in mind.

About the HPE Galway Office

The Galway site has various business groups located in Ballybrit Business

AberForward – Software Testing Assistant – Work Experience

The Law and Criminology Department’s project Veterans Legal Link is seeking to hire a Software Testing Assistant through the AberForward Scheme. This is an opportunity for one of your students to gain valuable work experience.

Software Testing Assistant

Your role will be to test the security and accessibility of our online portal software.

Duties will include penetration testing, QA testing, and systems administration. The role will primarily involve trying to break our system to test for security vulnerabilities and logic errors. Additional responsibilities will include testing the accessibility of the web portal.

The portal is being developed on the LAMP stack, so a strong applicant would have requisite knowledge of Linux, Apache, MariaDB, and PHP. JavaScript and HTML knowledge would also be useful for the role.

This position is avaliable to 2nd year and above Computer Science students or students who can demonstrate a strong ability for programming. Placement duration is 146 hours. A part time position would be 15 hours a week for 10 weeks. A full-time option is also avaliable. The position would be fully remote.
