Mentor

Mentor have come back to us again, as they do every year. We regularly send students to them, so that means this is another of those jobs with a high success rate for you. In other words, it is worth the time and effort to apply!

I have visited in the past, and the students there seem to have an excellent time. So this comes as a highly recommended opportunity.

Please send CV and covering letter directly to Jacob Tredinnic (jacob_tredinnick@mentor.com). They would like to start interviewing as soon as possible, and will continue until all the placements are filled.

So don’t delay, do it today!

Amadeus

04 – iOSAndroid Developer 05 – Mobile Web Developer 06 – Java Developer 01 – DevOps-Python Developer 02 – AR-VR Developer 03 – Innovation Developer

I know many of you have been asking about these. They are now advertised. And there are quite a few placements available. It is very likely they will all go to Aber students, so this really is a high-chance one for you.

And it’s in Germany. If you want to know more about Bad Homburg, I visited last March. And four of our third years were there; I am sure they would all be prepared to talk to you too. (It’s a lovely town!)

And Digital

This opportunity has just come via an IY student currently on placement with And Digital in London. Fred Long has just visited, and got a good impression of the company. I am sure he would be happy to talk to anyone who is considering applying. And if anyone wants to contact the student currently there on placement, I am happy to forward your email address.

Obviously, because they already have an Aber student for this year, your chances are good!

5C services IT Solutions

Here are a couple of IY positions which are relatively local. If you have a car, it’s an easy trip back to Aber to see your friends. Builth Wells is a lovely place too. We have a student there this year, and if anyone would like to ask that student how they find it, I’ll put you in touch.

Again, this is a company which has come directly to us, so your chances of getting a job with them are very good, if you apply.

Codethink

From an email from a student…

I’ve spotted a job listing for a company where I have done a summer placement which may be of interest to some of our first/second years.

https://www.codethink.co.uk/join-us.html

https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6453546687427411968

There is a summer placement available which is quite flexible (I did 9 weeks after my IY), and a year in industry which can get quite involved.

It’s a great opportunity for students as the people there are all great and willing to help develop skills in Linux, git and other tools for open source development.

IY – DCA Designs

Dear students looking for an IY

Howard, from DCA Designs (represented at Gregynog by Hester) has just sent us this. Please apply if the area is of interest to you! We want to keep DCA Designs coming back to Gregynog, and they have only had a couple of applications so far. Because they know our students, and come direcly to us, this is one of those positions which you have a high chance with. So it’s worth the effort of applying. If you’re all worried about the CS27020 assignment deadline on Friday, then you have the weekend to apply. But please don’t forget! Put it on your calendar: “Do application” for Friday evening 🙂

“It was great to meet so many of you at Gregynog and chat about all things software! As a reminder to those of you interested in embedded software development, our industrial year placement application closes next Monday 12th November.  I hope to hear from many of you in the next few days.  If you have any questions about the process or the placement please contact myself (hester.corne@dca-design.com) or my colleague Howard Stapleton (howard.stapleton@dca-design.com). ”

Employment Opportuninty – Software Engineering, Front End Development and Design/Creative

Dear students looking for an industrial placement,

This advert has just come in to us. I don’t know the company, but these look like interesting positions.

As always, when employers contact us directly to us, it increases your chances considerably as it means they are targetting Aber students.

UTC Aerospace Systems – Year in Industry 2019-2020

UTC Aerospace Systems – Year in Industry 2019-2020

Dear second year students,

Those of you who were at Gregynog will remember Claire Knights, from UTC Aerospace. She’s just sent me the following email and job advertisement, which some of you got at Gregynog.

Remember, even if you were not at Gregynog, you can still apply! And if you hadn’t thought about doing an IY, perhaps this will persuade you. Claire is a graduate of Comp Sci Aberystwyth. They are targetting us for recruitment. Therefore, applications to them stand a far higher chance of success than to most companies.

Good luck!

Angharad
