Environmental System, Aberystwyth

I visited a company in Aberystwyth, Environmental Systems

(https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.envsys.co.uk&data=02%7C01%7C%7Cd3f43d74c2bd4c045e4a08d6bf622796%7Cd47b090e3f5a4ca084d09f89d269f175%7C0%7C0%7C636906825632522084&sdata=%2BZhzgvjzfRQP0AoXj7U6NqaPzw9RsqKXf2XwysLfKw8%3D&reserved=0) today. They are interested in our industrial year scheme, and may consider employing an IY student.

What they do is likely to interest people in the fields of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, but they also want software engineers. If any of you are doing a joint degree with Geography, that may well also be of interest to them.

If you’d like to know more, you can contact:

Stephanie Ties

Geospatial Data Consultant

Environment Systems

Unit 9

Cefn Llan Science Park

Aberystwyth

Ceredigion

They’re very much at the stage where they are exploring possibilities at the moment, so there is no guarantee that a job will be there. But they would be very happy to talk to anyone interested, anyway.

Gloversure

You may recall meeting Jonathan Knight from Gloversure at Gregynog in October. The company has employed IY students in the past in Welshpool, and I know one or two of you already have placements there for next year.

For the first time now, they are advertising a placement in Chester, for mobile app development. This could be a very exciting opportunity for anyone interested in that field.

I have just been forwarded the following advertisement, which apparently initially went to our Physics department. Clearly some of these jobs are relevant to you, although the advert doesn’t explicitly mention computer science or software engineering.

Liberata

I had a visit recently from Liberata; they were looking to establish a relationship with us for taking IY students. So the attached job advert is one we are very likely to get someone into. I am also told that the pay is likely to be very good.

So this is an excellent one for you. Just send a CV (and I’d suggest a covering letter, though they don’t ask for it). And don’t be put off by the fact that they mention technologies you don’t know – we discussed this, and they realise no-one is going to have all of them! But you will learn, which will be great for you.

So this is a nice opportunity for a placement in the capital of Wales. Note that they intend coming to Aber to interview, so you don’t even need to go anywhere!

Scroll down to “See all roles” and “IT Undergraduate Year Out Placement Opportunities”

He’s also happy for you to email him with questions about what it’s like to work for the company: EWozniak@mandmdirect.com

The job is in Leominster, 70 miles or so from Aberystwyth on the A44.

Probably not commutable, but you can get back fairly easily to see friends on weekends!

Croudace (London)

Croudace, who advertised a month or so ago, have just emailed me to say:

“We still have one remaining vacancy left for this year in our IT team as a Software Developer.”

So if you’re interested in an IY job on the outskirts of London (from what I remember, Caterham is quite a nice area), follow this link.

Once again, they approached me directly. So they are targetting Aber, which makes it worth bothering to apply if you like the sound of it.
